Tim Johnston, LMSW

Training: West Virginia University (Master of Social Work)

Tim (he/him) is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW). Tim’s approach is warm and collaborative, he recognizes that clients are the experts in their goals and his role is to guide, coach, and support people as they grow and heal. He has specific training in trauma and PTSD, aging, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, caregiving, and he is LGBTQ+ affirming. Tim uses several different styles of therapy depending on each client’s needs, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Motivational Interviewing, and somatic approaches to processing and healing. He is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.

As a social worker Tim is committed to the view that our mental health is rooted in our wider community and society. Prior to becoming a social worker Tim was an advocate for LGBTQ+ older people, working to make aging services more welcoming to LGBTQ+ people and their families. He also loves to teach - he has a PhD in Philosophy and is always happy to get into a discussion about things like the nature of time.

When he is not at MindWell you will probably find Tim reading fiction, getting involved in community organizing, lifting weights, or hanging out with his partner and their dog.
