Couples Therapy at MindWell
Couples therapy provides an opportunity to explore relationship dynamics, gather new insights, and develop skills to help achieve a healthier balance. When things get complicated, you and your partner may benefit from seeing a provider who specializes in couples therapy to gain a fresh perspective on how to create positive energy within your relationship.
How Couples Therapy Work
Couples therapists at MindWell are highly trained and carefully matched to meet the needs of each couple they support. Starting with our initial intake, MindWell is dedicated to getting you the right fit with an outstanding therapist who specializes in couples therapy. You and your partner will meet with your therapist on a schedule that works for you. Together, you’ll design a care plan, and your therapist will track and measure your progress to ensure that you can meet your goals.
If needed, this can be done alongside individual therapy with another MindWell provider.
Types of Couples Therapy Offered
-
A well-established theraputic method for couples therapy, EFT focuses on relationships that may be impacted by insecurity, abandonment, or trust issues. It can help people learn how to interact with their partners in more loving, responsive, and emotionally connected ways, which can result in a more secure attachment.
-
IBCT focuses on emotional acceptance as the basis for concrete change. It assumes that relationship problems result not just from certain actions and inactions of partners but also in their emotional reactivity to those behaviors. This approach works to build empathy and understanding between partners.
-
The Gottman Method focuses on building positive emotions in a relationship, to replace negative emotions such as defensiveness and contempt. This approach builds the couple’s skills in maintaining fondness and admiration for each other, turning toward each other to get needs met, and managing conflict.
