Couples Therapy at MindWell
At MindWell, our couples therapists are carefully matched to meet each couple's unique needs. From the initial intake, we ensure the right fit with a specialist in couples therapy. Together, you and your partner will create a personalized care plan, with your therapist tracking progress to help you achieve your goals. Couples therapy offers the opportunity to explore relationship dynamics, gain insights, and develop skills for a healthier relationship. If needed, this can be combined with individual therapy with another MindWell provider.
Types of Couples Therapy Offered
-
A well-established theraputic method for couples therapy, EFT focuses on relationships that may be impacted by insecurity, abandonment, or trust issues. It can help people learn how to interact with their partners in more loving, responsive, and emotionally connected ways, which can result in a more secure attachment.
-
IBCT focuses on emotional acceptance as the basis for concrete change. It assumes that relationship problems result not just from certain actions and inactions of partners but also in their emotional reactivity to those behaviors. This approach works to build empathy and understanding between partners.
-
The Gottman Method focuses on building positive emotions in a relationship, to replace negative emotions such as defensiveness and contempt. This approach builds the couple’s skills in maintaining fondness and admiration for each other, turning toward each other to get needs met, and managing conflict.
