Children and adolescents face unique challenges — and the support they receive early can shape the rest of their lives. MindWell's experienced clinicians provide compassionate, evidence-based care for young people across New York and Vermont, helping them navigate emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges while partnering closely with families to build the foundation every child needs to thrive.
Understanding the Needs of Children and Adolescents
We believe early support makes a lasting difference. Our clinicians use evidence-based approaches tailored to each young person’s age, needs, and strengths — helping them build resilience and develop tools they can carry forward, while partnering with families every step of the way.
What to Expect During Your Treatment
Comprehensive Initial Assessment
Your child’s first visit at MindWell is a comprehensive assessment with one of our experienced clinicians. For children under 12, we begin with you, hearing about your child’s strengths, your concerns, and what daily life looks like at home and school. Depending on your child’s age, the clinician may also spend time with your child. Together, we use what we learn to recommend the support most likely to help, whether that is therapy for your child, parent coaching, family sessions, or a combination.
Collaborative Goal Setting
The second visit is where we bring everything together. We meet with you, and with your child when it makes sense, to share what we learned in the assessment and set treatment goals as a team. We talk through your child’s strengths, areas for growth, and your specific concerns, then build a clear care plan. That plan may include therapy for your child, parent coaching, family sessions, or a combination, and it is always shaped by your family’s values.
Therapy Sessions Begin
Starting with the third visit, sessions begin with evidence based approaches matched to your family’s needs. Depending on the plan, that may mean your child building new skills in a safe, welcoming space, you learning tools to support them at home, or both. Regular check-ins with you keep us on track, so we can see how things are going and adjust the plan as your child’s needs change.
Ongoing Support and Progress Review
As therapy continues, we provide ongoing support and regularly review your child’s progress in partnership with your family. Adjustments to the treatment plan are made as needed to address emerging needs and celebrate achievements. Our goal is to foster resilience, growth, and lasting positive change for your child.

Therapy Fees and Insurance
in New York and Vermont
MindWell is in network with Aetna Commercial plans for individual therapy, and most Aetna members pay only a copay (exact costs depend on your plan). We do not accept Medicare, Medicaid, or other plans administered through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. For all other commercial insurance, we work out of network, and we submit claims on your behalf so any reimbursement goes directly to you. Our Care Coordination team can also help verify your Aetna benefits before your first appointment.
Session fees vary based on provider, session length, and your individualized treatment plan. For the most current rate information, please visit our Insurance page or contact us directly. We’re happy to walk you through your options before your first appointment.
